Facts about a recall on Depuy Hip Implant:
Depuy Orthopaedics, a division of Johnson and Johnson Services, Inc., manufactured the ASR XL Acetabular Hip Replacement System or ASR Hip Resurfacing System (“ASR Hip Implants”). The Depuy ASR Hip Implants were implanted in patients between 2005 and 2009. A total of about 93,000 of these hip implants were affected. On August 26, 2010, DePuy Orthopaedics finally announced a recall of these dangerous and defective hip implant devices.
Revision surgery is a painful and expensive process in which the defective ASR cup is removed and replaced with a different device.
